Patrick Henry Hughes

Patrick Henry Hughes.

Okay, I just got done watching the Extreme Makeover I DVR’d last night.  My floor looks awesome.  We did the floor in Patrick’s room.  The one with the wheelchair accessible stove and stuff.

I really don’t like that show too much.  I would never have watched it if we didn’t do some of the floors.  I was really hoping I’d get a little screen time.  I did not.  But whatever.

And I love the DVR.  I was able to fast forward all the crap and watch just the good stuff.  And there’s lots of good stuff there.  Yeah, they exploit that family for a TV show, but it is a really good story.  And the lives that young Patrick Henry Hughes has and will touch are worth every bit of that.

He is truly a special person.  Give special gifts and skills I can only dream about.  And yet he has also been given challenges I cannot imagine.  And he takes it all as it comes to him and he has flourished.  And I’m sure will continue to do so.

In addition to all the stuff you saw on the show, Elite Homes and their partners donated a hundred grand to the family.  That should take care of the heating and insurance cost for a while.

The University of Louisville gave the family’s two other boys full ride scholarships.  That’s huge.

It is a really good story.  And sure, the money used on that one project could have been spread around to help hundreds of needy people in Louisville, but there’s no doubt in my mind that Patrick Henry and the rest of his family will give much, much more to their community.

Great story.

  1. dude i watched that last nigh hoping to see you on there, but it didn’t happen…I thought I saw about 1/4 of your face at one time, but I wasn’t sure…you’re right though, great story…only thing that was negative about any of it was all the Louisville Red I had to look at, but I guess I can tolerate it for the good cause
