I totally got Scott Padgett’s autograph today at the Doo Wop Shop. Of all the places you think you’ll run into a former UK basketball great and former NBA player, it’s not the Doo Wop Shop on Hurstborne.
At least I would never have thought it.
I was in there getting my basses looked at and tuned up and I was on my way out the door when I looked over and said to myself. Holy crap, that’s Scott Padgett. He was just standing there talking to some old dude. Might have been his dad. I reckon I should have introduced myself properly and met and shook both their hands, but I was a little bit star struck. It happens.
I asked the Doo Wop dude if he had a sharpie. I said I’m gonna get Scott Padgett’s autograph on my UK hoodie I just happened to be wearing. Otherwise I would have had him sign one of my basses.
Thinking back, I should have had him sign one of my basses anyway. That would have been cool. Not like Phil had Marvin Lewis sign the back of his blue bass, I would have Scott Padgett’s signature on the front of mine. Then I could have tried to get other Wildcat greats to sign it too. That would be awesome. My bass signed by folks like Scott Padgett, Derek Anderson, Ritchie Farmer, Jamal Mashburn, etc….
But I got my hoodie.
